African Swine Fever - Diseases don't respect borders

It is forbidden the introduction in the European Union (EU) from non-EU countries of meat and its products for personal consumption, since these products can be a vehicle of animal diseases with devastating impact, such as African Swine Fever, a disease that affects all swine species and whose occurrence on this date in certain countries outside the EU reinforces the indispensable collaboration of all actors, including travellers, to prevent the entry of this disease from those countries outside the EU.

If you bring in your luggage banned products note:

You can deliver them to Customs for destruction, without being subject to any penalty.
If not proceed and the products are detected by Customs, in addition to products being seized you will be subject to a fine or legal process.

Information resources at your disposal

All entities involved, official ones or other, apart from Direção-Geral de Alimentação e Veterinária, may provide you the necessary information, including Autoridade Tributária e Aduaneira, travel agencies, the carriers of goods and persons, firms handling at airports and postal services.

Note: If you travel from EU countries affected by African Swine Fever (Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic and Romania) do not bring this type of products. Help protect the health of our animals.
